Lady Gaga will not be performing her song “Hold My Hand” from Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick at the upcoming 95th Academy Awards on March 13th. This news was confirmed by Glenn Weiss, the Oscars executive producer and showrunner, during a recent creative team press conference. Weiss explained that Lady Gaga, who is one of the five nominees for best original song, is currently shooting a movie and won’t be able to deliver the kind of performance that she and the Oscars are used to.
While Lady Gaga will not be performing at the ceremony, all the other nominees for best original song will perform live. These songs include Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up,” Sofia Carson and Diane Warren’s “Applause,” Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne and Son Lux’s “This Is a Life,” and Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava’s “Naatu Naatu.”
Lady Gaga is currently filming for Todd Phillips’s Joker: Folie à Deux, which is set to release in theaters on October 9, 2024. She will reportedly play a new version of the popular DC Comics character Harley Quinn. Lady Gaga made her film debut in 2013 with Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills and received her first best actress Oscar nomination in 2019 for her performance in Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born. She also won her first Oscar that same year for her contributions to the film’s soundtrack, particularly the chart-topping single “Shallow,” which made her the first woman to win an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, and Grammy Award in one year.
